Having A Functional Closet

Have you ever opened your closet and a have yourself buried under an avalanche of clothes, shoes, sheets, and various knick-knacks? You are not alone. People tend to stuff their closets with things that lack any commonality – like a closet is a temporary storage for random objects. The problem is, temporary become forever all too quickly. Here are some seasonal décor ideas and table setting to take back the dead space in your home.

Tools to make closets organized are a multi-million dollar industry. People share the same problems in making a limited space contain a seemingly unlimited stream of random stuff. You can always accept defeat and take half a day to find a single jacket, but these organizers work great and they are not expensive.

Be wary of gimmicks, though. The closet carousel never caught on because the system itself took up a lot of space. It was cumbersome when filled to capacity and you are still the one responsible for coming up with your own organizational system. Add to that its high price tag and you will clearly see that it’s doomed to fail. Wire racks were less expensive but they also had their fair share of problems. One, they are often unreliable and many closets simply did not benefit from them.

Complete closet organization systems work better but the ones from more reputable companies can cost quite a lot. Many companies who specialize in these systems offer options including wooden shelves and drawers tailored to fit any closet space. These come at a cost so be prepared to spend more. But if your house is new or you plan to live at your current home for a long time, this is a good investment.

If you have a modest budget, an elaborate system of shelves and drawers may not be for you. In this case, you can go the DIY route. The big hardware stores offer ready-made shelves and closet organizers that you can put in yourself with little trouble. Just measure your closet before heading out so you know what to look for. Wicker baskets and boxes can be placed at the bottom of closets for added organization. They can serve as additional shelves where light, commonly-used items can be placed.

When cleaning up your children’s closet, colorful plastic boxes and baskets are more fitting. You can use them to store toys, shoes, and clothes. As they grow up, you can use these boxes as a more permanent storage for outgrown clothes – because you need to make room for new clothes.

Closet organization tools and systems seem like a waste of money to some. But the time saved searching for things more than makes up for the cost of these simple solutions.

Closets get neglected because they are seen as mere places to store things and largely remain hidden unless used. Placing a soft flokati rug in front of your closet door will entice you to step on it more often. When choosing what clothes to wear, a well-placed pink rug or yellow rug will make the whole experience go a lot more pleasantly. You can then look for a place to hang your mirror and lights for an experience that will never let you take your closet for granted again.
